Tell us how you're "Creating a Storm" to improve water quality in Wentzville!
Background
The volume and quality of uncontrolled stormwater flows can be endanger constructed properties and natural areas. Controlling stormwater and the pollutants it carries is a difficult and expensive task that is beyond the capacity of individual property owners.
To comply with state environmental laws and the federal Clean Water Act, the City of Wentzville has created a Stormwater Management Program. The program not only addresses community drainage and flood control, but also protect the water quality of our lakes, streams and rivers from stormwater pollution. The City is considering a public Stormwater Utility to fund the requirements of our permit, and address community stormwater issues.
Why is this fee necessary?
The stormwater utility provides a dedicated fund for stormwater management activities. The fee is necessary to bring the City into compliance with our National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit as required by the Clean Water Act. This permit requires the City to develop and implement a Stormwater Management Plan to prevent harmful pollutants from entering storm drains, which flow directly into our local streams and lakes.
