Pollution Prevention

Environmental Compliance

Did you know? In 1999 the City became regulated under the Clean Water Act to help improve stormwater quality and protect watersheds, rivers, streams, and drinking water resources.

The City is regulated and permitted by the Department of Natural Resources to operate our storm drain system.  This permit requires the City to establish a program to reduce pollutants through public education, community involvement, the implementation of Best Management Practices (BMPs), and the reduction of illicit discharges of pollution.

Our Plan to Prevent Pollution

Wentzville's Stormwater Management Program works with citizens, businesses, and property owners to increase awareness of stormwater issues and promote private stormwater management efforts. Learn more about the City's Stormwater Management Program and MS4 Permit by viewing the documents near the bottom of this page.

Here are some tools from the City's plan that helps prevent stormwater pollution in our community:

  • Concerns Hotline - easily report pollution 24 hours a day.
  • Ordinances Relating to Stormwater
  • Free Household Hazardous Waste Collections
  • Recycling and Yard Waste Programs - Don't throw trash or yard waste in storm drains or on stream banks! Instead, check out Wentzville's programs available to all residents. We also offer two free special trash pickups each year (spring and fall) for large bulky items, electronics and construction/remodeling waste.
  • Stormwater Inspections - all stormwater outfall pipes are routinely inspected for signs of pollution.
  • Street Sweeping - To catch litter and debris before it enters storm drains, main streets are swept twice monthly and subdivision streets are swept once per quarter.
  • Development and Demolition Permits - include requirements, training, and inspections for proper grading, erosion and sediment control, and proper disposal of demolition wastes.
